Conversion vans are incredibly versatile vehicles. They can be luxurious yet rugged; easy to drive yet spacious; and they can also come in a mid-size package.

The Birth of the Mercedes Metris

In 2016, Mercedes Benz was all set to release their mid-size van, Vito, to the United States. For many years, the Mercedes Vito has been popular in Europe and was originally named after the city of Vitoria, Spain, where the mid-size vans assembly factory resides.

After consulting with focus groups, Mercedes found that “Vito” was too closely associated with the Vito Corleonè, the fictional character in the book and film, The Godfather.

The name Metris was chosen, in reference to the metropolitan lifestyle the van adapts to. The Metris is the perfect middle-of-the-road mid-size van. It’s smaller than the Mercedes Benz Sprinter, but larger than a Ford Transit Connect.

In 2016, Explorer Van Conversions jumped at the opportunity to build a luxury van on a smaller and more nimble chassis.
